Apply for your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
You need a SIN to work in Canada or to get government programs and benefits. As a permanent resident, you apply with your PR card, or with your COPR in your first year. Apply online, by mail or in person at Service Canada. In person, if everything is in order, you get your SIN during your visit.
