Get an Alberta Driver's Licence
If you have a licence from another country, you may be able to exchange it at a registry agent. Depending on the country, you may not need a knowledge or road test. If you live in Alberta permanently, you have 90 days from moving here to exchange it. Students and other temporary residents may not be able to get an Alberta licence, but may be able to keep using their licence from home.
What you'll need
- Any driver's licence from outside Alberta. You hand it in to the registry agent.
- Original photo ID that proves who you are, such as a permanent resident card
- Proof you live in Alberta, dated in the last 90 days, such as a utility bill or lease
- Proof of your legal status in Canada, such as a PR card, COPR, permit or refugee protection claimant document
- An approved translation of any document that is not in English
